NIGERIA HAPPENS TO US: A 400LEVEL VARSITY GIRL TRAGICALLY DIES AFTER BEING INVOLVED IN A HIT-AND-RUN.

Some Losses Have No Name.

A child who loses their parents is called an orphan. A husband who loses his wife is called a widower. A wife who loses her husband is called a widow. But there is no word for the parent who loses a child, or the friend who loses a friend. Some losses are simply too profound for language to name. There is no special word; only a silence that grief fills.

There are moments that remind us just how fragile life is, and the news of the death of *Rebecca Kambia*, a *400*-level Nursing student of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare, is one of them.

The passing of someone who has shared in our work, our dreams, and our communities leaves a space that words often struggle to fill. Our hearts were broken by the tragic loss of a young life in a hit-and-run incident. What should have been an ordinary day became one marked by grief, unanswered questions, and unimaginable pain for her family, friends, classmates, and everyone whose life she touched.

A family is grieving. Friends are struggling to accept an unimaginable reality. A future filled with hopes, compassion, and endless possibilities has been cut short in the most heartbreaking way. No family should ever have to receive the phone call that changes everything.

Perhaps the depth of this loss is best captured in the words of Rebecca’s mother, Mrs. Doris Kambai, who, through unimaginable pain, shared:

“I am the mother of Rebecca, whom we just lost yesterday. It is truly a time of grief for the whole family. My daughter, my last baby, will be greatly missed.”

She went on to describe the daughter she knew and loved:

“She was actually my favourite, and the siblings even know that. She took after me in so many ways, and I have been so proud of her. She was such an intelligent and brilliant girl. Her coming into my life was truly a blessing. Ever since she came into my life, so many things changed, and for that I am so grateful.”

Yet, even in the depths of sorrow, she held on to faith:

“There is nothing we can do about it. God gives and He has taken away. May His name be forever praised.”

In a touching expression of gratitude, she also thanked everyone who had stood by the family during this painful time, praying that they, too, would find comfort whenever they faced seasons of sorrow.

As we remember this precious life, our thoughts and prayers remain with Rebecca’s loved ones. May they find strength in the days ahead, and may her memory continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved her.

Some losses leave a silence that words can never fill.

May *Rebecca Kambia* rest in perfect peace.
