I SPENT ALL MY MONEY ON MY CHILDREN, BUT NOW THEY’VE REFUSED TO TAKE CARE OF ME, WOMAN SHARES”*

An elderly woman has reportedly shared the heartbreaking story of how she spent most of her life savings raising and supporting her children, only to find herself struggling to receive care from them in her old age. According to her account, she made numerous sacrifices because she believed her children would one day become her greatest source of support.

The woman said she worked tirelessly for years and denied herself many comforts so her children could receive good education and have better opportunities in life. She reportedly paid their school fees, provided for their daily needs and supported some of their personal ambitions, often putting their needs ahead of her own.

She explained that as the years passed, she gradually used up the money she had saved for her retirement. Some of her resources were reportedly invested in helping her children establish themselves, while she continued believing that their success would eventually make life easier for everyone. “I thought that when I became old, they would remember everything I did for them,” she reportedly said.

However, according to the woman, her situation changed after her children became financially independent. She claimed that they began responding less frequently to her calls and visits, while requests for assistance were sometimes met with excuses. What hurts her most, she reportedly said, is feeling as though the sacrifices she made for them have been forgotten.

The elderly woman now reportedly lives a much quieter life than she imagined for herself. She said she sometimes depends on neighbours and other people around her for basic assistance, while wishing that her children would show her the same concern she showed them when they were growing up.

Her story has sparked an important conversation about ageing, parental sacrifice and the responsibilities adult children have toward their parents. While parents are often willing to sacrifice everything for their children, the story serves as a reminder that love and responsibility should not end when children become independent. For the woman, however, the greatest pain appears to be not the money she spent, but the feeling that the people she sacrificed for are no longer there when she needs them most.
