I HAVE MORE HITS THAN DAVIDO, HE SHOULD GIVE ME THE 1M DOLLARS. SINGER PORTABLE SAYS.
Nigerian singer Davido has stirred up a fresh wave of controversy in the Afrobeats scene after throwing down a bold $1 million challenge to his colleagues. During a livestream, the singer confidently declared, “I will put $1 million cash on the table. Nobody has more hits than me,” a statement that immediately set social media alight and had fans debating who, if anyone, could match his catalogue.
Davido’s confidence stems from over a decade spent at the top of the Nigerian music industry, with a body of work that many argue rivals that of his closest peers, including Wizkid, Olamide, Burna Boy, Tekno, and Runtown Although his declaration placed him in direct comparison with these heavyweights, none of them had publicly responded to the dare at the time of reporting.
That silence, however, didn’t last long, as street-pop star Portable stepped up to accept the gauntlet. Reacting boldly to the challenge, Portable declared that he was ready to face Davido, insisting that his singles and collaborations have produced just as many hits, if not more.”I’m here to challenge Davido, say I get hit song pass am,” he said, backing up his claim by pointing to his collaborations with other established acts.
Portable specifically referenced his breakout hit “Zazoo Zehh” alongside Olamide and Poco Lee, as well as features with Skepta, crediting both artists with helping deliver hit records to his name. He argued that being handed hits by proven hitmakers like Olamide and Skepta was proof enough that his musical resume could stand toe-to-toe with Davido’s.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time a Nigerian star has thrown out such a challenge. Back in 2020, during the COVID-19 lockdown, Burna Boy issued a similar hit-for-hit dare, with only Reekado Banks stepping up to accept at the time, though Burna Boy reportedly dismissed him as not being a “worthy challenger. Whether Davido will extend Portable the same courtesy remains to be seen.
For now, Portable’s acceptance has added fresh fuel to the ongoing conversation about who truly reigns supreme in Nigeria’s hit-making circles. With the $1 million offer still standing and Portable throwing his hat in the ring, fans are eager to see whether Davido will take the bait, or brush off the challenge entirely, as the debate over who has the strongest hit catalogue continues to dominate online discourse.
