I ALMOST DIED, I SURVIVED A MOTOR ACCIDENT THAT KILLED 15 PEOPLE – MAN SHARES HIS STORY

Every time I enter a vehicle now, I remember the sound of metal crushing. It happened on a normal day. I was travelling like I had done countless times before. There was nothing about that journey that made me think I was about to experience one of the most terrifying moments of my life. Then everything happened at once.

There was a loud crash. The vehicle lost control, and within seconds, passengers were screaming. I remember being thrown around and hitting different parts of the vehicle. Then everything went quiet.

When I opened my eyes, I couldn’t immediately understand what had happened. I was injured and trapped. People were shouting outside, and there was smoke everywhere. I tried to move but couldn’t properly feel one of my legs. That’s when I realised this wasn’t an ordinary accident.

People around me were not responding. I later learned that fifteen people had died in the accident. Even writing that sentence still feels strange because I was sitting among people who didn’t make it, yet somehow I survived.

Rescuers eventually got me out, and I was taken to the hospital. My recovery was painful. I had injuries that took months to heal, but the physical pain wasn’t the hardest part. It was the survivor’s guilt.

I kept asking myself why I was alive when so many others weren’t. I replayed the accident in my head constantly. Every loud noise reminded me of it. For a long time, I couldn’t travel without panicking.

But surviving that accident changed the way I see life. I stopped postponing important things. I started calling people I loved more often. I became more grateful for ordinary mornings because I understood how quickly everything can change. I don’t know why I survived. But I know I was given another chance.

And every morning I wake up, I remind myself that life is not something to take for granted.
