I AM TIRED OF BEING CALLED AN ACTRESS — AYOBAMI OJO SAYS STEREOTYPES HAVE COST HER LOVE, PROPERTY AND BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES
Nigerian actress Ayobami Ojo has emotionally opened up about the challenges she says she has faced because of the public perception of actresses, revealing that the label has negatively affected her personal and professional life.
Speaking in a heartfelt video, Ayobami expressed frustration over what she described as unfair stereotypes against actresses, insisting that she has done nothing to deserve the negative assumptions people make about her.
According to her, she once lost the opportunity to purchase a landed property in Lagos after the seller’s wife reportedly objected because she was an actress. She also claimed she was denied rental spaces for business purposes after property owners discovered her profession.
The actress further alleged that the same stereotypes have affected her relationships, revealing that people have discouraged men from pursuing a relationship with her simply because she is an actress.
Ayobami questioned why actresses are often judged based on the actions or reputation of others, insisting that she has lived responsibly and has never been involved in scandals that would justify such treatment.
She also addressed critics who assume actresses live extravagant lifestyles through questionable means, explaining that she works long hours in the United Kingdom to earn her income and simply enjoys spending the money she has worked hard for.
Visibly emotional, the actress said she has reached a point where she no longer wants to be identified by her profession because of the discrimination that comes with it. She called on Nigerians to stop judging actresses as a group and instead assess individuals based on their personal character..
