They Said It Wouldn’t Last, But We Chose to Love Each Other in Private” — RMD Shares the Story of His Quiet, Unshakable Marriage

When you marry a public figure, everybody wants to be a part of your love story even those who weren’t invited.

So I made a decision: I would protect what mattered to me even if it meant hiding it from the world. She Was a Rising Star and She Gave It Up for Me ,Jumobi Adegbesan wasn’t just a beautiful woman. She was a big deal.

She was a celebrated TV presenter on AIT. Known. Loved. Respected. Her career was flying. And then she walked away from it all not because I asked her to but because she wanted our home to be stronger than our spotlight.

That sacrifice has never left me, It’s the kind of love you don’t clap for. But you live with it and it humbles you every single day. She Chose Me and also hid From the Fame That Followed Me.

Jumobi didn’t marry the celebrity. She married Richard the man behind the suits, the scars, and the spotlight and from the beginning, she said one thing: I’m not interested in being your co-star. I just want to be your peace. That statement never left me and I am forever grateful for that .

So when people asked, “Why don’t we see her with you everywhere?” I smiled. They didn’t understand that her love language was privacy. She didn’t need public displays. She gave me private loyalty. She stayed out of the blogs ,out of drama and out of the cameras.

But never not for a second out of my heart. There were times when fame tested Us and rumors came but we stayed.

Rumors flew. Blogs speculated.
People whispered about things they didn’t know and there were times the noise almost drowned the love but each time, we returned to our anchor. It’s us and not them. We talked. We prayed. We chose each other again and again.

And that’s what real love is. Not perfect. Not always pretty. But persistent. Sometimes, Love Doesn’t Want Applause. It Wants Protection.

The older I get, the more I realize: you don’t need the world to validate your relationship.
You just need two people who refuse to give up on each other.” That’s what Jumobi gave me. Not a red-carpet kind of love. But a home.

A love that’s gentle. Wise. Private. And powerful. At 64, I Still Look at Her and Think, Thank You.

Not just for being my wife. But for being the kind of woman the world may not always see but God sees. And I see. And I honor. We didn’t build our love in front of the world. That’s why the world couldn’t break it.

Do you believe love can survive in silence away from social media, applause, and constant attention? Or do you think love should always be seen? Let’s talk about it in the comments.

  1. Now we know why no longer see Jumobi on TV.

I used to be a fan of (I am still though) when she was the host of the popular Lunch Hour Show on AIT.

Soft spoken and always full of smiles.

And you cannot but love RMD !!!

    Lovely couple.

I wish them longer lives together ❤️❤️❤️
