TINUBU SHOULD GO HOME AND REST AFTER 2027″ – PETER OBI CRITICISES PRESIDENT’S PERFORMANCE, CITES RISING POVERTY AND INSECURITY
Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, saying the President should “go home and rest” after the 2027 general election.
Speaking on the state of the nation, Obi alleged that poverty and insecurity have worsened since President Tinubu assumed office.
According to him, the number of Nigerians living in poverty has increased significantly under the current administration, while the country’s security challenges have continued to escalate.
Questioning the government’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, Obi argued that Nigerians cannot embrace a slogan if they believe the administration has failed to deliver meaningful improvements in their daily lives.
He also dismissed suggestions that his comments were driven by personal ambition, insisting that he is not desperate to become Nigeria’s president.
Drawing a comparison with academic performance, Obi said that when a student consistently fails in school, they are asked to leave, suggesting that leaders should also be held accountable for poor performance.
He further claimed that many Nigerians who previously owned thriving businesses have been pushed into financial hardship due to the country’s economic situation.
The former Anambra State governor’s remarks have sparked fresh political debate, with supporters agreeing that the country needs a new direction, while critics defended the Tinubu administration, arguing that the government is implementing reforms that require time to produce results.
As political activities gradually build ahead of the 2027 general election, comments from key opposition figures are expected to continue shaping public discourse on governance, the economy, and national security.
