A young woman has sparked a heated conversation online after explaining why she believes her former boyfriend should financially support her now that he has graduated and secured a well-paying job. According to her, she is not demanding his money simply because they once dated, but because she sacrificed a significant part of her own finances to ensure that he completed his education.

The woman explained that when they started dating, her boyfriend was struggling financially and had already considered dropping out of school because he could no longer afford his fees and other expenses. At the time, she was working and had a relatively stable income, so she decided to help him. She said she paid some of his school fees, bought textbooks for him and regularly sent him money for transportation and feeding.

According to her, the assistance continued for several years, even when it became difficult for her. She claimed that there were times she had to postpone buying things for herself because she wanted to make sure he had enough money to remain in school. She said she never complained because she genuinely loved him and believed that whatever success he eventually achieved would be something they would both be proud of. However, things changed after he graduated. The relationship eventually ended, and they went their separate ways. Months later, the man reportedly secured a good job and began enjoying the kind of financial stability they had both once hoped for. While she was happy about his success, she admitted that she was surprised when he stopped offering her any financial assistance.

She said this was what made her question whether he had forgotten everything she did for him. “I am not saying I own his salary,” she explained. “But I feel there should be some form of arrangement between us. I supported him when he had nothing. Now that he is earning well, I believe he should at least put me on a payroll or give me something monthly.” The woman’s statement has divided opinions, with some people arguing that her former boyfriend owes her nothing because the money was given voluntarily while they were in a relationship. Others, however, believe that her sacrifices should not simply be forgotten, especially if she made significant financial contributions that helped him complete school.

She insisted that she was not trying to control his finances or force him to remain connected to her. According to her, she simply wants him to acknowledge the role she played in his journey. “If I had not supported him during those difficult years, I don’t know where he would be today,” she said. “I don’t want his life. I just want him to remember that I was there when nobody else was.” Her story has since generated a wider debate about financial sacrifices in relationships and whether helping a partner through school should be considered a gift or something that creates an obligation after the partner becomes successful. While some believe love should come without expectations, others argue that major sacrifices should at least be acknowledged. The question many are now asking is whether her former boyfriend truly owes her anything—or whether she should simply let go of the past and move on.
