Popular influencer Geh Geh has set social media buzzing after sharing his controversial opinion on the impact of financial hardship on romantic relationships, arguing that a woman who is struggling to survive may find it difficult to genuinely love a partner.
Speaking in a viral video, Geh Geh claimed that many women in “survival mode” often enter relationships out of necessity rather than love, as they are focused on meeting their basic needs and improving their standard of living.
According to him, a woman who lacks financial support and is constantly worrying about how to afford essentials such as clothes, hair, skincare, phones, and other personal expenses may prioritize finding someone who can provide those things over building an emotional connection.
“A broke girl is not capable of loving. E dey stupid of you as a man to believe say girl wey dey survival mode dey capable of loving you properly. She no fit love you because she no get any bit of love inside her,” he said.
Geh Geh went on to argue that many women compare themselves with others living more comfortable lifestyles and may see relationships as the easiest path to achieving the life they desire when they have no job or financial assistance from family.
He further claimed that this mindset is why some women reject men they believe cannot meet their financial expectations, insisting that such men are not viewed as suitable partners because they cannot provide the lifestyle the women are seeking.
“You no be her boyfriend, bro. Na source of income you be. Person wey be say each time she needs something she go fit call to pay for those things wey she want. Na employer and employee na wetin una two dey do,” he added.
The influencer also warned men against what he described as “paying for love,” arguing that financial support alone cannot guarantee genuine affection or commitment in a relationship.
His remarks have since divided opinion online. While some social media users agreed that financial struggles can influence people’s choices in relationships, others criticized his comments as unfair, saying genuine love is not determined by a person’s financial status and that many people build healthy relationships despite economic challenges.
