MY BROTHER SOLD MY NUDE TO HIS FRIEND AND MY FAMILY TOLD ME TO FORGIVE HIM FOR BLOOD SAKE

I was 18, fresh in university in Nsukka, and very shy. My elder brother, Chibuzo, was in his final year and the “big boy” in the family. I trusted him completely. One weekend when I visited his off-campus room to collect money for books, I took a shower and left my phone charging in the sitting room.

I never knew he went through it, copied my private photos and videos the ones I took for myself in the mirror, some a bit naughty after a bad breakup and started selling them to his friends for ₦2,000 each. Naked pictures, videos of me touching myself, everything. It spread like wildfire in our department.

The first time I noticed something was wrong was when a guy in my class sent me one of the photos with the message “You look sweeter in real life.” I confronted Chibuzo in tears. He didn’t even deny it. He said, “You’re my sister, but I needed money for rent and handouts. Don’t be selfish it’s just pictures.”

When I told our parents, my father beat me instead, calling me a spoilt girl who took dirty pictures in the first place. My mother begged me not to report my brother to the school or police. “He is your blood. If he goes to prison, who will carry the family name? Forgive him, my daughter. These things happen.”

Chibuzo still walks around freely, smiling at family gatherings. Some of his friends still look at me like they know exactly what I look like naked. I dropped out of that school from the shame and transferred far away, but the photos are still out there. Every time my phone vibrates with a new number, my heart jumps.

The worst pain isn’t even the betrayal or the way strangers jerk off to my body. It’s knowing my own family looked at my tears and chose my brother’s future over my dignity. They protected the boy who sold me, and left the girl who was sold to carry the scar alone.

Blood is supposed to shield you… but sometimes it only exposes you to the world and tells you to smile through it.
