The Delta State chapter of the International Federation of Women Lawyers has condemned the alleged raping of a 15-year-old girl (name withheld) at the palace of the Obi of Idumuje-Ugboko kingdom in the Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state.

FIDA said the girl, a princess, was allegedly raped by one of her cousins and was later evicted from the palace by the crown prince who mediated in the matter together with other relatives.

The culprit was said to have been asked to bring four goats and pay some cash as fine for the cleansing of the palace.

FIDA’s delegation led by its state chairperson, Mrs. Loretta Omezi, who met with the family of the victim on Tuesday, vowed to pursue the case and ensure that justice was served to the victim and her family.
Omezi, represented by the spokesman for FIDA in Delta, Mrs. Stella-Maris Mejulu, told newsmen after the visit that the association was disturbed by the spate of rapes in the state and had decided to pursue the instant case and get justice for the girl and her family.

Mejulu said, “The group got information about the rape through a petition and had observed that the teenager has been so traumatised and intimidated by the ugly experience. The threat by her guardians and supposed protectors is making her scared of speaking up.
“The victim is now uncertain of what her life will be after now. The rape victim wants justice and FIDA was disposed to supporting her to pursue her right and justice.”
The mother of the victim, Mrs. Ifeoma Nwoko, informed the visiting lawyers that she was still speechless over the incident, disclosing that she had reported to the crown prince when her daughter reported the incident to her.
Earlier, the victim, a Senior Secondary School student, had told the visiting team of lawyers that she had finished taking her bath and was dressing up when a masked male, whose voice she could identified, entered the room and forcefully violated her.

According to her, the doctor in the village, who examined her, observed that she could not urinate and referred her to the Federal Medical Center, Asaba, for treatment, stressing that because the doctors were on strike, she was taken to St. Joseph Hospital, Asaba, where the doctors confirmed that she was raped.
