Please keep me anonymous. I was on my way to see my parents in Ebonyi for Christmas after over a decade apart. During a stop for the driver to use the restroom, chaos erupted. He shouted for us to run as armed men approached. Gunshots rang out, and I hid in a gutter until they left.

Later, I was held captive for six long weeks. They took my phone, called a church member for ransom, but he refused to help. I feared for my family’s future as I endured hunger and daily torment.

Thankfully, after three more weeks, the church gathered the ransom. But the kidnappers planned to kill us all. On the day of the exchange, they unexpectedly released me in a remote area, leaving money beside me.

Too frightened to return home, I went to the nearest police station. They helped me get back safely. I owe my life to God’s grace.
