I WAS HAPPY AT MY JOB UNTIL MY SALARY BECAME PUBLIC — NOW EVERYONE TREATS ME DIFFERENTLY – MAN SHARES PAINFUL STORY
Please keep me anonymous because I am still working at this place.
I got this job about a year ago, and at first, everything was going well.
My colleagues were friendly, and the work environment was peaceful. I did my job, minded my business, and tried to stay on good terms with everyone.
I never had any issues.
One thing about me is that I like to keep my personal matters private, especially when it comes to money.
So I never discussed my salary with anyone at work.
Everything changed one day.
I don’t know how it happened, but somehow my salary information got leaked.
At first, I didn’t even know.
But I started noticing changes in people’s behavior.
Some of my colleagues became distant. Others started making subtle comments like, “Some people are really lucky in this company,” or “It’s good when you have connections.”
At first, I ignored it.
But things got worse.
People I used to gist with stopped talking to me. Group conversations would suddenly go quiet when I walked in. Some people even started acting like I didn’t deserve my position.
That was when I found out the truth.
They had discovered that I was earning more than some of them even those who had been in the company longer than me.
I was shocked.
I never asked for anyone’s salary, and I never compared myself to anyone. I just accepted what I was offered when I got the job.
But now, it feels like I’m being punished for it.
The environment that once felt comfortable has now become very tense.
I go to work every day feeling uncomfortable and isolated.
I don’t even know who I can trust anymore.
Part of me wants to confront the situation and clear the air. Another part of me feels like I should just ignore everything and focus on my work.
But honestly, it’s affecting me mentally.
Please I really need advice.
Because I don’t know how to survive in a place where people suddenly see me as the problem.
