EUCHARIA ANUNOBI REVEALS: MY FATHER LOCKED ME UP FOR SIX MONTHS BECAUSE I CHOSE MY OWN PATH
Veteran Nollywood actress and evangelist, Eucharia Anunobi, has opened up about the painful challenges she faced growing up, including a shocking experience involving her father before she became famous.
Speaking during a recent interview on The Honest Bunch podcast, the actress revealed that her father strongly opposed her ambitions and did not believe in investing in the education of a girl child. According to her, he felt that educating daughters was unnecessary since they would eventually marry and leave the family.
Because of this belief, she said he refused to support her schooling despite having the financial means to do so. The disagreement between them became even more serious when she rejected the career path he wanted her to follow.
Anunobi explained that her father wanted her to work in an office and even brought home employment forms for her to complete. However, she refused because she wanted to pursue her own dreams instead of settling for a job she did not want.
Her refusal angered him.
According to the actress, the situation escalated to the point where her father locked her inside a room for six months, repeatedly pushing the employment forms under the door and insisting that she fill them out. Despite the pressure, she remained determined and refused to sign them.
She also revealed that her father stopped supporting her education and even distanced himself from her because he disapproved of the path she had chosen.
Determined not to give up on her dreams, Anunobi found her own way to survive. She began modelling and used the money she earned to support herself and continue her education.
At times, she had to secretly leave the house and even jump over the fence just to attend acting auditions.
Her breakthrough eventually came when she gained recognition in Nollywood and later won an award in London for the movie Glamour Girls. The achievement became a turning point in her relationship with her father.
When she returned home with the award and presented it to him, his attitude toward her changed. After seeing what she had accomplished, he finally gave her his blessing and their relationship began to improve.
Today, Anunobi says the difficult experiences she endured helped shape her determination and strength, proving that sometimes the greatest success comes after the toughest struggles.
