I TOOK A 30 MILLON NAIRA LOAN FOR MY WEDDING, TWO MONTHS AFTER, THE MARRIAGE CRASHED – HEARTBROKEN MAN SHARES
I thought love was worth any sacrifice. I thought when you truly love someone, you do everything to make them happy even if it means borrowing beyond your means. That was why I took a ₦30 million loan for my wedding.
From the hall to the food, down to her wedding dress, I wanted everything to be perfect. She deserved the best or so I believed. People said I was doing too much, but I didn’t care. It wasn’t just a wedding; it was our forever.
The first few weeks after the wedding felt like a dream. We travelled for our honeymoon, laughed every night, and shared sweet words every morning. I told everyone I had found peace. But that peace didn’t last.
Soon, things started to change. She became distant, cold, and secretive. Her phone was always locked, and she started coming home late, saying it was “work stress.” I tried to ignore the signs because I didn’t want to believe what my mind was whispering.
One night, she forgot her phone at home. A message popped up while it charged beside me. My heart broke as I read it her “colleague” saying, “I miss last night already.” My hands shook. I didn’t need anyone to tell me what was going on.
When I confronted her, she didn’t deny it. She only said she was confused and that maybe we rushed things. Two months after the wedding I spent my life savings and loan on, she packed her bags and walked out.
Then the bank started calling. The same people who smiled at me during the wedding reception were now threatening to seize my property. I begged her for help, just a little contribution, but she said, “You took the loan. You pay it.”
That night, I sat in the dark and cried like a child.
Now I’m paying for it, not just the ₦30 million loan, but also the price of loving the wrong person too much.
If I ever marry again, it won’t be about the show, the crowd, or the money. It’ll be about real love and doing a wedding i can afford without borrowing .
