Popular Nigerian artist and singer , Dapo Oyebanjo aka Dbanj. In-depth investigations unearthed that the singer colluded with some government officials to introduce ghost beneficiaries into the payroll of a scheme .
Following the pursuit by ICPC operatives, the musician was arrested and detained . According to sources, he was compelled to surrender himself at the agency’s headquarters located in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria.
A Nigerian model scout, Benjamin Ese, had alleged that D’banj raped his friend on December 31, 2018, at a hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos.
According to him, his friend was forced to share her story after the Kokomaster joined in preaching against rape on his Instagram page as follows: “#NoMeansNo. We Need to Raise Our Sons right and Teach them to love and Respect Women. We Need Justice for Our GIRLS…Say NO to R@pe, Racism, tribalism. Let us stop living in FEAR and HATE, and start living in LOVE…”
This issue caused an uproar with most of his fans denying the allegations and claims . Saying that the musician could never do a heinous act in 2022
Further investigations into the case by ICPC independent corrupt practices commission and The Nigerian police Force later clears the musician’s name in 2023 .
Also in respect to the fraud allegations which was an N- power scheme . D’banj’s lawyer, in his deposition filed before the Chief District Court of the Federal Capital Territory at Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, also averred that the singer was never a government official and never had any access to government funds and that the N-power campaign he supported was free and was never paid a penny by anyone or the government.
