I Divorced My Husband Because He Refused to Beat Me; He Was Not Man Enough
My name is Zainab, and I want to share my story so ladies learn, even though it might sound strange to some. I grew up believing that a man should show his strength by being strict and even using physical discipline. This was how I was taught a man should be.
When I married Daniel, I thought he would be like that. He was kind and gentle, always wanting to solve problems by talking things out. But to me, this was a sign of weakness. I believed that a real man would show his strength by being firm and sometimes even using physical force.
I tried to get Daniel to act the way I expected. When he didn’t, I became frustrated. I felt that if he truly cared about me and was a real man, he would act according to these traditional beliefs.
Our marriage became hard for me. I wanted a husband who showed his authority and strength in the way I was used to. Since Daniel refused to do that, I felt he wasn’t living up to his role. This made me unhappy, and I decided to leave him.
After the divorce, I still hold onto my beliefs. I think that maintaining these traditional views is important. Even though others might not agree, this is how I understand what a man should be.
I belief a man should be in charge and not the other way round. Every woman deserves a strong man not a weak man.
