THE SACRIFICE THAT ALMOST COST ME MY CAREER – SHAFFY BELLO SHARES HER STORY

I was at the height of my career when i made one of the hardest choices of my life. People knew my voice from “Love Me Jeje, Love Me Tender” with Seyi Sodimu in the late 90s. My face was everywhere, doors were opening, and Nollywood was calling. But deep down, another dream was tugging at me, family.

So, i chose love. I left Nigeria, left fame, left the spotlight, and moved abroad to be with my husband. At first, it felt right. But as the years rolled by, I watched the industry move on without me. New faces took the roles that could have been mine. Sometimes, i would ask myself, Did i throw away my career?

Motherhood was fulfilling, yes , but the artist in me was relentless. The longer i stayed away, the more people forgot the name “Shaffy Bello” and it hurt still i told myself, when the time was right i will return.

And when i finally did, it was like starting over again. People didn’t hand me roles because of my past glory. I had to fight, audition, prove myself again. But this time, I came back with wisdom, with grace, with depth that only life can teach. Today, people know me not just as a singer, but as the actress who can light up the screen with strength, elegance, and emotion.

Leaving at the peak almost cost me everything, but it also shaped the woman i am now. If there’s one thing i have learned, it’s that love and passion don’t have to be enemies. Sometimes the pause in your journey is what prepares you for the comeback.
